My mom always said that if you can smell your own perfume, it’s too strong. This is why I know that if I can smell my own stench after a run, then I know you can, too. Only it’s 10 times worse to breathe someone else’s stink than your own. But being stinky after a run is one thing. Being stinky before a run is a whole other ball of sweat. It’s sort of horrifying.

A while ago, I remember noticing that my workout clothes were not coming out of the laundry smelling clean. This is a big, fat embarrassing problem for someone who runs with friends. I upped the amount of regular laundry detergent I was using, but it didn’t matter. My running clothes still smelled like stinky sweat.

Recently, I discovered it’s not the sweat that makes my clothes stink, though. It’s the bacteria combined with the sweat, which is why regular laundry detergent doesn’t do anything. I switched to a sports detergent and now I won’t go back to the regular stuff.

I’m really excited to try 2Toms’ brand-new Stink Free Sports Detergent, which will be available Nov. 15. 2Toms says their sports detergent is scientifically formulated to target and kill the odor-causing bacteria that give me stinky gear, and that it is perfume- and residue-free, and safe on all high-performance fabrics and colors.

The sports detergent I was using is filled with perfumes that I know aren’t good for my high-tech (and expensive) running clothes. Also, if I breathe really deep, I can still get a whiff of stink under all that perfume. Plus, I don’t like putting chemicals against my skin.
So, no more stinking before a run! After a run? Well, let’s just see what the 2Toms’ anti-stink science geniuses come up with next.
