Phew! What a week! Starting with our 11 year old car biting the dust (it gave us almost 250,000 miles – I’d say it served its time), the long and arduous task of shopping for and purchasing a new (used) car, and ending with a long day of hiking through Franconia Notch State Park – including The Flume, The Basin, and the Old Man of the Mountain Historic Site – it has been one turn after another for us! So nice to finally have a day of rest for our active family!
On the subject of hiking, that is to be my family’s summer activity of choice over the next couple months. Geocaching, discovering beautiful new places local (and not so local) to us, and generally getting outside for exercise, education, and time together are all wonderful reasons to trek our way through a happy summer. We can’t wait to get out there as much as we can!
And where will we be hiking? Well, we know we want to head to Ponemah Bog (http://www.hikenewengland.com/PonemahBogGen1.html) as well as Rhododendron State Park (http://www.beqbooks.com/rhodo/rhodo.htm), to name just a couple. But where else can we go in this beautiful state? Heck! The whole New England area is full of wondrous trails and parks to explore!
Well, I’ve just found www.slackerpacker.com, a fabulous website with all things hiking and backpacking. Not just for New England, but for anywhere in the U.S.A., this site “is designed to provide convenient access to websites with hiking and backpacking trail maps, trip reports, and photographs.” It’s like a search engine site for hiking info! This is great!
Hmmm…. Looks like we have a lot of researching to do on what hikes might work best for our family. But with the one-stop access we now have at slackerpacker.com to blog posts and other hiking-centered sites that are out there, we can make easy work of our vacation-time planning!
Happy summer, everyone! May your outdoor adventures be plentiful, safe and fun!
